Breakfast is a set charge but is unlimited and you can help yourself to all the components of a full English breakfast as well as continental items like pain au chocolat, cinnamon and raisin bagels, sourdough crumpets, fruit and yoghurt and cereal."

"If there was one serious oversight in my original 2009 “budget eats” guide, it was not paying full due respect to this vegan veteran. Its soups, dhals, top-ranking falafel, hummus and tinas (fried carrot patties of remarkable ersatz-creaminess; it’s the coconut milk apparently), are the stuff of local legend and tasty enough to have persuaded many sceptical carnivores to come around. You can eat in of course, in the bright, surprisingly Andalucian-styled cafe-restaurant (El Piano has sister branches in southern Spain), but the takeaway hatch is where you will find a serious bargain."

"Sited at the top of Micklegate a few yards from the city walls this bar from independent Scottish brewing giants Brewdog opened after a protracted court battle with a local trader – much to the relief of their loyal following of fans in the York area. I say fans because Brewdog as a company have so far attracted investment in their crowdfunding equity scheme from over 100,000 loyal drinkers. The multi-roomed bar is huge."
