"At one point the majestic centerpiece of York Castle, this historic keep has had a long and troubled life. Originally built to intimidate and subdue the Viking north by William the Conqueror, it has been twice burned to the ground in its lifespan. "When it comes to hot dogs, there’s only one place you need to visit – Fat Annie’s. They’ve been cooking up brilliant bangers since 2014 and they’re really ruddy good at it. The Classic is a locally made pork and beef dog, but if you fancy mixing it up a little you’ve got options, like The Cheese One, which is a Big Melt sausage, with pork, beef, bacon, garlic and cheese."

The General Tarleton is one of the best country pubs near Leeds – it’s got five AA stars for its restaurant and an amazing cocktail menu to boot. It does something not many others can, fuse together luxury, history and character to create a quite spectacular venue."

"Its New York-inspired interior and state of the art DJ booth (don’t worry, it’s not blasting out tunes at 3pm in the afternoon) draw cool crowds, but there’s no doubt it’s one of Leeds’ most child-friendly bars. A warm welcome is extended to all, although their collection of 80s board games go down especially well with younger visitors. They don’t have a kids’ menu, but everything is such great value that you won’t mind one bit."

"There are so many beers and ciders at The Beer House that I struggled to decide what to order. For the first round, I went for something that I was familiar with, a Strongbow. Later on, I tried another fruity cider called Rekorderlig, which I recommend if you like sugary drinks."
